Jana Winderen is an artist educated in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London with a background in mathematics, chemistry and fish ecology from the University of Oslo. She focuses her work around audio environments and ecosystems which are hard for humans to access, both physically and aurally. Jana and I have been collaborating for over a decade.
This limited edition 7” single, released by Portland-based label Autofact, was our first project working together. The A-side documents frogs and crickets from paddy fields, catfish and shrimp from the rivers Ping and Mae Taeng north of Chiang Mai, Thailand, captured by Jana using two DPA hydrophones in January 2007. Jana supplied the beautiful cover image, shot on location.
